I graduated from university, but shortly before that, I had split up with my girlfriend. While I was heartbroken, it didn’t take too long for me to realise I was now free to be promiscuous and have my way with any number of women.
It didn’t work out like that, and it was never going to.
I began what would become a series of (mis)adventures with online dating that left me frustrated and out of pocket. You will have seen the adverts – some of them are even being placed on non-adult sites, luring you in with promises such as ‘sex tonight’, ‘women waiting’, ‘women in your local area’. It’s clever stuff. Placing them on porn sites, it is bound to make us think we’d rather be actually having sex than watching somebody else do it.
The sad thing is that the vast majority of these sites are, in my estimation and experience, con jobs. There just isn’t the volume of women available as claimed and fake profiles are everywhere, sending you messages and then not replying to you once you have parted with some money to subscribe to the full service.
I have tried most – not all, but most. The first, which was when I was at university, was hornymatches.com. I had what seemed like a couple of genuine email conversations with a few women but never got anywhere. It was a while until I found a permanent job and got back online but when I did, as well as signing up to a standard dating site, I tried a few adult sites. Adult Fiend Finder and Sex Search were the first ones. Adult Friend Finder is probably the best I’ve come across even though it didn’t result in me meeting anybody. They also have a sister site to cater for fetishes. There were a few obvious fake profiles that were sending me messages, so I closed my account.
Sex Search was a strange one. I had a few emails from women, but it all seemed a bit weird. Vague answers and random messages put me off. That isn’t to say that such behaviour is limited only to adult dating sites. Using sites such as match.com and plentyoffish.com I’ve also had some genuinely bizarre conversations with women who apparently have no interest in actually meeting up and seem intent on wasting people’s time.
The only adult site where I did feel like I was getting somewhere was Sex In The UK (situk.com). Quite early on, a woman wanted me to come and worship her feet, and I made contact with several others, although I struggled to make it any further than a few establishing instant message chats before interest on one side or the other died away.
I had video chats with a couple of girls but didn’t fancy following it up in either case and was then contacted by someone purporting to be a single Mum who said she missed sex. She was keen for me to travel and meet her and I thought my luck was in. Leaving me a message to get in touch to arrange a meet on a Sunday, I headed back online, leaving her a message detailing when I would arrive by train. There was no immediate response, so I took a shower, preparing myself to make sure I would be ready.
As there was still no response, I decided to give it a miss. It could have been a lucky escape. I had their email address and postal address, so I put the former into Google and was directed to a Facebook profile of a middle-aged bloke. There might have been an entirely innocent explanation for it, but I resolved there and then to end my communication with her and took a few deep breaths as I realised just how potentially dangerous this whole world could be.
Not to mention expensive. I would estimate I’ve probably paid upwards of £500 into subscriptions to adult dating sites. That’s a lot of money for no return. I’ve also tried some of these ‘text for sex’ contacts you see online and in adult magazines. If you’re into what is essentially texting each other and sending racy photos then it’s all very well, but trying to get an actual meeting out of the girls (or the robots/men at the other end pretending) proved impossible, even if they claimed to be ‘just around the corner’ or ‘real close’.
Sex really does sell but if I were to have my time again, I would have forgotten about adult dating and gone straight down the route of escorts instead!
Nevertheless, some people smoke, some people drink, some people gamble, some people use illegal substances. My ‘vice’ has always been pornography and then paying for sex. I can think of worse things to be doing with my time – certainly from a health-wise point of view. I have been guilty of losing money through gambling – and losing a bigger sum than I have ploughed into sex sites. Ironically enough, when gambling, I’ve always had in mind that any profits will go back into my pursuit of sex although now I purely bet for a bit of fun.
